Post-conference tours

On the last day of the conference we offer our participants a half-day tour to 3 different destinations. Information on the two technical trips and the Budapest sightseeing tour can be read below. Application can be made at your registration record in the “Optional programs” menu.

Please note that the minimum number of participants is 20 persons per each tour.

Application deadline is 30 June, 2016.

1. Technical trip to Szeged CANCELLED

Due to lack of application the post-conference trip to Szeged has been cancelled. You can still apply for the trip to Szentes or for the Budapest sightseeing tour. For further information please contact the organisers.

16:30 Visiting the Paprika Molnár Ltd.

Paprika Molnár Ltd. is located in the heart of the traditional paprika-growing area of Szeged, South-Hungary. They specialize on growing and processing Hungarian spice paprika: sweet and hot PDO Szegedi paprika and non-PDO paprikas with quality range between 60 and 180 ASTA. They are also running a museum at their premises where they display all information about paprika, the past and the present. Participants can have a look at the processing technology and steps of the production.

19:00 Departure to the Visitor Center monastery and church of the Franciscan at Szeged Alsóváros

In the monastery and church our guests can see the royal robe which was given to the friars by King Matthias I. By the help of our tour guides you can take a look inside the history of the building ensemble, the life of the Franciscan order, the traditions and every-day life of the friars. Inside the monastery there is a possibility to see the beautiful yard with traditional herbs and the different paprika varieties of Szeged.

At the end of the programme fine dishes will be served for dinner.

2. Technical trip to Szentes

16:00 Visiting the Duna-R Ltd.

Duna-R Ltd., a completely family owned Hungarian business, has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to the development of horticulture and in particular pepper growing in the past almost twenty years. They continue to strive to serve their customers with premium pepper sowing seeds and with varieties that are suited to the given environment and the technologies applied by horticulturists.

In order to achieve that they implemented several development projects and as a result they can now successfully compete with the largest sowing seed breeding companies. They prepare their sowing seeds of exclusively Hungarian origin using the most advanced tools and procedures to enable horticulturists to obtain the best possible yield.

Szentes is a typical southern Great Plans town of Csongrad County, placed in the Tisza and Körös rivers area, located in between the two banks of the River Kurca. Szentes is an important Center of the Hungarian horticultural production with big traditional fresh market .

The participants have the possibility to see the sweet pepper and eggplant varieties in the up to date growing technologies under different kind of facilities. Szentes is a traditional region of protected vegetables productions.

3. Budapest sightseeing with dinner cruise

16:30 Arrival in Budapest

The Budapest sightseeing tour will be start at the magnificent Castle District and during a short walk we show you the main attractions of the area. We walk to the Matthias Church and to the Fishermen’s Bastion from where you can enjoy the beautiful panorama. Some drinks/coffee and biscuits will be served next to Matthias Church, and than we continue our tour by bus. The next stop will be the Gellért Hill (Citadel) where you can see the spectacular view of Budapest. Then we take you across the Elisabeth Bridge to Pest and show you the famous Central Market Hall, followed by the largest Synagogue of Europe and the City Park. We pass by Europe’s largest thermal spa (Széchenyi Bath) and the Budapest Zoo, then we stop at the Heroes’ Square with statues of the most famous Hungarian kings and dukes. Later we take the Andrássy Avenue to downtown Pest, pass by the Opera House and the St Stephen’s Basilica. We also show you the impressive neo-gothic House of Parliament.

About 20:00 we stop at Boráros Square and take a two hour-long river cruise. Dinner will be served on board. During the dinner you can admire the magnificent panorama of Budapest, which was added to the World Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO. The World Heritage site inscribed in 1987 stretched from the Chain Bridge (Clark Ádám Square) to the Technical University on the Buda side – the area of the Gellért Bath, Mt. Gellért with its Freedom Monument and the Citadel, and also the building ensemble of the Buda Castle.

We take off the boat at 22:00 at Boráros Square, and walk to Ibis Styles Budapest City (right next to the bank) to occupy the rooms.
