Practical Advice to Authors

Download Paper Presentation Form

Oral presentations

You will present your paper in a conference room that seats 400 people. This means that what you project on the screen should be readable from a long distance.

Please, note that if you use presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint) many of the slides with a coloured background may be suitable for computer projection, but unsuitable for overhead transparencies. The background colour is often too dark and when printed and projected the transparency, the contrast may not be sufficient enough and therefore difficult to read for the audience. Finally, if you plan to use computer projection for your presentation also bring a spare set of over-head transparencies! If you get a computer problem valuable time is lost from your 15 minutes. These cannot be retrieved, because the programme proceeds and the next speaker is waiting …

Poster presentations

The poster session will be in parallel with the coffee break, therefore it will be a great opportunity to discuss your scientific work and answer colleagues’ questions in a more relaxed way. The net useable area of the poster board is 90 cm at width and 120 cm at height, hooks, scotch tape, glue, pushpins and scissors will be provided to mount your poster. Further information will be given upon arrival.

In a plenary session the chairman will get some minutes to highlight the subject of the posters. This is mainly to raise interest for your poster and to let the audience “link a face to a subject”. Thus it is necessary to provide the chairman with a short (1-2 sentences long) summary of your poster in due time. Please, return the completed Presentation Form attached to this paper to hunkar.m@met.hu by 1 May.

Finally, remember that a poster must be eye-catching in a positive way to attract an audience. A printout of your scientific paper, glued to the wall page by page, can never be considered as a good poster! Use a minimum of text and a maximum of pictures or graphs … etc.

Although intended for oral presentations it contains useful advice also applicable for posters and we strongly recommend you to consult that site when you plan your presentation. We would like to share some useful hints on planning your presentation:
