Bio for Lani Florian

Lani Florian is Professor of Social and Educational Inclusion at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Previously she was Senior Lecturer in Inclusive and Special Education in the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and Fellow, St Edmund’s College Cambridge. She has undertaken consultancies for a range of international agencies and NGOs, and has a particular interest in supporting the development of inclusive education in CEE and CIS countries. Research interests include categorisation of children, models of provision for meeting special educational needs, and teaching practice in inclusive schools. Her co-edited book, Promoting Inclusive Practice, won the 1999 NASEN/TES academic book award and was translated into Spanish and Portuguese. Recently, she edited The SAGE Handbook of Special Education and co-authored Achievement and Inclusion in Schools.
