Strand 2 - Socially Responsive Societies: Standing up for Young
Children and Families
Afternoon session: Toward ECD Policy Planning in Your
Country
This workshop will present key concepts and the basic process
used for preparing early childhood policies. The core text will be
Planning Policies for Early Childhood Development: Guidelines for
Action (copies are available electronically from the author in
Russian, English, French and Spanish). Participants are encouraged
to reflect on the ECD policy situation in their countries and to
bring a brief description of the challenges they are currently
facing and some questions for discussion. It would be best to have 2
or more participants per country in order to form small country
planning groups.
The workshop will include the following activities:
- Initial presentation on ECD policy planning: Why is it
important?
- Core concepts for ECD policy planning and “policy-planning
basics”
- Brief presentations by participants (5 min.) on their
current country situations
- Small group work by persons from the same country to prepare
a “Plan of Action” for next steps when they return
- Presentation of the Work Plans and dialogue
