As engaged parties in society, universities’ role expands from providing knowledge and professional skills to fostering lifelong learners and global citizens. With rapidly changing expectations, increasing worldwide competition, additional administrative functions while still serving a large variety of stakeholders, it is only natural to inquire whether traditional university governance will remain relevant or should be transformed. In this discussion university leaders will share their experience and projections how to maintain effective university models to successfully meet current and future challenges.

Rohit Verma

Founding Provost, VinUniversity, Vietnam

Rohit Verma (Professor, Operations Technology and Information Management area; School of Hotel Administration) is currently on leave from Cornell University serving as the Founding Provost/Rector (Chief Academic Officer) of VinUniversity, Hanoi (Vietnam). VinUni was established by the private corporate Vingroup following the approval by the Prime Minister of Vietnam in March 2018. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Dean of External Relations for Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (May 2016 – June 2019); Singapore Tourism Board Distinguished Professor (January 2014 – June 2019); Executive Director for Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures (July 2015 – June 2018); and Executive Director of Cornell Center for Hospitality Research (July 2009 – June 2012).
