Meet the Editors
- International Journal of Operations and Production Management
This session will feature a detailed discussion on the new editorial strategy of IJOPM and the implications for submissions to IJOPM. The three Editors in Chief will be present and share insights which papers make it through the review process and which ones don’t. Special emphasis is provided on what makes a great and innovative contribution and which rather don’t. Also, the EICs will clearly share what kind of methodologies are rather preferred and which methodology tweaks will make a submission more successful. As part of the session the editors will also do a quick collection of new research topic and onsite feedback to new research ideas. The session will be also used to celebrate best papers and best reviewer awards in IJOPM. Come and reach out in case you want to be more involved in IJOPM or are just curious what is happening in the Journal!
Tobias Schoenherr
Professor, Eli Broad Business School, Michigan State University, USA
Tobias Schoenherr is an internationally renowned and award-winning scholar and teacher focusing on the area of sourcing, with a particular interest in buyer-supplier relationships. He has published 57 papers in peer-reviewed academic journals, such as the Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Management Science, Decision Sciences, the Journal of Business Logistics, and the Journal of Marketing Research. Several of his papers were recognized as some of the best in the respective journals. Most recently he received the 2017 Jack Meredith Best Paper Award, for the best paper published in the Journal of Operations Management during the last five years. Dr. Schoenherr is the Co-Editor-In-Chief for the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Operations Management, Decision Sciences and the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, and serves on the Editorial Review Boards of several other journals, including Production and Operations Management, the Journal of Business Logistics, the Journal of Supply Chain Management, and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management.
Constantin Blome
Professor, University of Sussex, UK
Constantin Blome is Professor of Operations Management and Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange at University of Sussex. Before Constantin was the GlaxoSmithKline Chaired Professor in Strategic Sourcing and Procurement at Universite catholique de Louvain, Belgium and affiliated with the Center of Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE).Constantin’s research interests include supply chain management, procurement and operations management with strong focus on sustainability, innovation and risk issues. His research has been published among others in Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Operations Management, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, and Journal of Business Ethics. He is also Co-Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Operations & Production Management as well as Associate Editor of Journal of Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal and Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education and editorial board member for Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Business Ethics and Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management.
Cristina Gimenez Thomsen
Professor, ESADE, Spain
Cristina Gimenez is Full Professor of Operations Management and Vice Dean of Faculty at ESADE Business School since 2014. Her areas of interest are supply chain management, integration processes and sustainable operations. On these subjects she has published over 30 articles in specialised journals and presented papers at national and international conferences. Her recent papers have been published in Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Production Economics, and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, among others. She is also Co-Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Operations & Production Management.
- Journal of Business Logistics
This session is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the Journal of Business Logistics and to answer questions that potential contributors might have. Some of the issues to be covered include the history and mission of the journal and its positioning among other supply chain, logistics and operations journals. Additional issues comprise substantive and methodological submission requirements and an overview of the review process, including statistics of interest. Current subjects for Special Topics Sessions, as well as ideas for new ones will be part of the presentation as well. Towards the end of the session there will be a discussion of a manuscript successfully published in JBL, likely led by the author him/herself.
Walter Zinn
Professor of Logistics, Max M. Fisher College of Business, The Ohio State University
Walter Zinn is Professor of Logistics. He currently serves Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business as Associate Dean for Graduate Students and Programs. He previously served as Chairman of the Department of Marketing and Logistics (2010-2016) and as Director of the Master in Business Logistics Engineering (2005-2010). He is also Co-Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Business Logistics.
At Ohio State, Professor Zinn teaches logistics courses for undergraduate, MBA and MBLE students, including Field Problems in Logistics, where graduate students conduct consulting projects for corporations. Dr. Zinn also lectured in more than 100 executive development programs and spoke in logistics conferences and meetings in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Zinn is fluent in Spanish and in Portuguese.
Dr. Zinn is an active member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals where he chaired several committees and served as a member of the Board of Directors (2011-2014).
Andreas Wieland
Associate Professor of Supply Chain Risk Management, Department of Operations Management, Copenhagen Business School
Andreas Wieland is an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Risk Management at the Department of Operations Management, Copenhagen Business School. He is the European Co-Editor of the Journal of Business Logistics and Co-Chair of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ (CSCMP) European Research Seminar. He is a member of the 2018/2019 CSCMP Academic Strategies Committee. His current research interests include resilient and socially responsible supply chains. His articles have appeared in journals such as International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management, Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, and Supply Chain Management Review. He is a Senior Associate Editor of the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management and a member of the Editorial Boards of other leading supply chain journals He is also the editor of the blog scmresearch.org.
- Journal of Supply Chain Management
This session will provide insight into the Journal of Supply Chain Management (JSCM) and help prospective authors increase their likelihood of getting their papers published in JSCM. The editorial team will discuss JSCM’s mission and what we are looking for in a manuscript. We will also explain the process of how a paper moves through the system. A critical part of the process at JSCM is the emphasis we place on developmental reviews. Hence one of the topics for the session will be what we expect from our associate editors and reviewers. We will also discuss the resources and training we provide to help ensure that authors receive useful developmental feedback regardless of if we accept their paper. Finally, we will address what authors can do in designing their research, writing their manuscript and communicating with the editorial team to increase their likelihood of success when submitting papers to JSCM (and similar outlets). We expect the session to be highly interactive so please come prepared to ask questions and engage.
- Using Case Studies: Bringing the Real World into your Classroom
The Case Centre (www.thecasecentre.org) is the largest provider of business and management case studies in the world and offers training for students and lecturers at business schools and universities worldwide. The case method of learning is the favoured teaching approach for MBA students and executives at the world’s leading business schools, and is increasingly being used by undergraduate students.
In this PDW an experienced case tutor will show how the real world can be brought alive in the classroom by running an example case teaching session. The delegates will have the opportunity to participate in the classroom in a teaching session as students. Through the session the tutor will demonstrate how to obtain maximum participant involvement and how to get the best out of the case study. By providing feedback on the mechanics of the teaching session during, and at the end, the teacher can illustrate best practise and provide useful hints and tips on how the delegates can improve the student/teacher experience in the classroom.
The case study will demonstrate first hand how a short case study with careful crafting of the discussion can be used to fulfil all your pre-determined learning objectives. Throughout the session the tutor will demonstrate how to obtain maximum participant involvement and how to get the best out of the case study. By providing feedback on the mechanics of the teaching session during, and at the end, the teacher will illustrate best practise and provide useful hints and tips on how to improve the student/teacher experience in the classroom.
